Belated Christmas Gifts

This year, my sister Melissa, her roommate Autumn, and myself all agreed to a handmade gift exchange.  True to form, none of us had our projects finished in time.  We finally exchanged when I went to visit them earlier this week.  So now I can finally post what I made them.

First is Autumn's:

I crocheted an infinity scarf using red and white wool yarn.  It's worked up in strips and then braided together.

This is Melissa's:

It's a hand embroidered full bib apron.  She's a fantastic baker and a fan of RuPaul's Drag Race.  Her kitchenaid is named after one of the queen's from the show Delta Work.  So I embroidered a RuPaul quote on it along with her blue kitchenaid.

October 15

It's finished!  I'm looking forward to hanging it up.  I want to find a way to frame it that doesn't involve an embroidery hoop.

October 11

The three is almost finished.  Once that's done the piece is complete.  I'm kind of sad for it to be finished.

August 24

Filling in space on embroidery takes a while.  More than I would like.  I often sit down to embroider envisioning how much I'm going to accomplish and always fall short of the goal.  You would think I would be getting better at estimating progress by now.

August 18

Didn't get much done today.  The outline of the three is finished.  Wanted to get further, but ran out of time.

August 14

The "3" is started.  I had a hard time choosing the color.  I second guessed it several times.  I think that the green works though.

July 27

One is done!  Still haven't figured out the color for hte three though.  I can't believe that this is almost finished.

July 25

The one is underway.  It'll be completely filled in when I'm finished.  Not sure what color the three will be yet.

July 22

Making progress.  I'm starting to wonder what I should embroider next.  I'm wondering if I should design it of go with a pre-made.

July 17

2 down, 013 to go.  I'm a little worried that it looks more like a cursive letter.  Hopefully, it will look less like a letter once the other numbers are done.

July 11

The word is done!  Now I just have to figure out the color scheme for 2013.

July 8

Out line for the Y is done.  I'm not sure about ending the word with a plain black letter, but the style of the letter seems to me to be type font-ish so it seemed a decent choice.  I wish the edge had come out a bit cleaner, but it'll be OK.

July 4

I'm pretty happy with how this letter turned out.  The T has a flat edge in the curve that I wish I had rounded out a bit more.  Overall I think it's good progress.

July 3

I got the T finished and now it's on to the vinework on it.  I think I chose a good green that's not to over the top green.

July 2

Back to embroidery.  I stopped for a bit because I couldn't decide on a color scheme for the T.  I hope it comes out the way I pictured.

March 19

I spent some time cleaning out more in the studio, working towards the finished product.  I think I decided that instead of painting it I wants to, tastefully, decorate with framed examples of work, either my own or pieces that inspire me.  So after that I didn't have a lot of time to create.  I worked on the applique a bit since I haven't touched in in about a week I think.  It always looks so messed up in progress.  Eventually it's going to be usable.  I'm anxious to get it done and use it!

March 12

I started this a while ago as a surprise for a friend.  The applique didn't come out as well as I would have liked, but I hope she likes it when it's finished.  Which will hopefully be soon.  :-)

March 4

I started appliqueing the embroidered felt down.  I really do not enjoy applique stitch.  It is tedious.  I takes a long time to go no where.  That small section there took 45 minutes.  Unfortunately, the only way to finish it is to applique it.  On with the stitching!

March 3

This is the embroidered piece that I will applique down onto my coffee sleeve.  Annoyingly, I ran out of time to finish the Y.  It will take me about 2 minutes to do, but when you're out of time, you're out of time.  The flower design is inspired by an Egyptian lotus my sister created for my belly dance business cards.  The shimmy?  We'll coffee certainly does help fuel those and goodness knows too much coffee will cause involuntary shimmies.  :-)

February 10

Sorry for the delay in posting.  To call this week insane would be an understatement.  However, I'm proud to say that despite not posting I've still been creating.  Over the next couple days I'll be getting the blog updated.  I want to be sure I take the time to think about the pieces before I write about them.

I finished the I.  It came out pretty well I think.  I was worried the reverse fill wouldn't play out the way I saw it in my head.  Can't believe how much I've finished on this.  I figured if I finished it by December I'd be good.  I don't think it'll take that long.  Hmmmm...what will I embroider next?
