April 12

More knitting.  This piece is to the point that it goes around my neck without very much overlap.  The stitches are getting a bit more even, though when I lay it out the mistakes really jump out at me.

April 11

I think this is the best oil pastel I've done yet.  Everything blended really well.  The inspiration came from a photo on the internet.  Tulips are my favorite and since I want so much for the warmer weather to get here it seemed fitting.  I lightly sketched it first and then had to try and erase it even lighter because unless the lines were so light you almost couldn't see them, they still showed through the pastels.

April 10

My trackball mouse.  Why?  I wanted to sketch and it was sitting next to me.  Overall not bad.  The shading is a little off, but not bad.

Back at it with the pencils.  The angle of the brim is a little off, but otherwise I'm happy with this.  I notice that I'm needing to measure with thumb/pencil less and less to get the proportions at least close to accurate.  I'm taking this as a good sign.  A sign of development and progress.  I'm also a little scared that that might mean it's time to try adding in things in the background.

April 8

Time to play with oil pastels again.  It was hard to control the edges of the apple when i was blending.  Something to work on.

April 7

This was all that was in my head today.  I ran (walked) my first race ever.  It was the Shamrock Shuffle 8K in Chicago.  I'm not sure why but I've always wanted to do it.  It was rough, but at the end all I could see was this finish line.  Big red finish line.  The park was not as idyllic as I've painted it, but like I said, all that mattered was the finish line.

April 6

This...is...horrible.  Just horrible.  I drew it after watching a video that was shot partly through a key hole.  However, this is, I don't know what this is.  It looks like something I might have drawn in grade school.  I was almost ready to say "oops I didn't create today."  I realize that part of creating is living with flops.  I just don't even want to look at it it;s that big a flop.

I know I'm behind on posting.  Rest assured I am still creating.  I am wrapping up one of classes in school and it's made keeping up with papers and PowerPoint presentations take priority over blog posts.  Class finished for a month this coming Saturday so I'm hoping to catch up on posts over the weekend.

April 5

I wanted to sketch, but was at a loss as to what to sketch.  So...here's toilet paper?  I just grabbed a random object and here it is.  It's not great; it's probably the most asymmetrical roll of toilet paper I've ever seen.  Leaning tower of TP?

April 4

Worked through the rest of the first skein of yarn.  I really like how this is working up.  Not much else to say.  I'm itching to sketch.  Maybe tomorrow.

April 3

I was in dire need of spring.  Here in Chicago the last couple of days it's been sunny, but still cold enough to need a winter coat.  I decided to go looking for flowers and do some photography.  Most of the daffodils and tulips are still coming up so enjoy some crocuses and a sunbathing cat.

April 2

Still laid up with a sinus infection.  Feeling a bit better.  Yesterday, and even this morning, any time I got my pulse up even a little it felt like a spike was being forced out of the top of my head.  Thankfully that has eased off.  I'm still exhausted unfortunately.  I managed to get about four or five new rows onto my knitting before I was too tired and laid back down on the couch.  Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.

April 1

Sadly I've been sidelined by a sinus infection.  If I wasn't asleep I was just staring at the TV.  Hoping some more sleep with kill this thing and I can get back to being creative tomorrow.

March 31

A new yarn shop opened up near work.  This is a dangerous thing.  If you're near Rogers Park in Chicago check out http://squigglysyarnshopandstudio.com/.I got this gorgeous yarn without having a purpose for it, so I picked a pattern from one of my books because I was anxious to work with it.  It's crocheting up really nicely, almost striped.  It's a single-ply acrylic that is much softer than I'm used to acrylic being.  It's shaping up to be a really pretty afghan when it's done.
